Facebook Places & Deals Are Great Tools For Your Dental Practice

FACEBOOK PLACES IS A FREE, LOCATION-BASED SERVICE THAT ALLOWS PATIENTS to “check-in” at your dental office using a mobile device or smart phone. “Checking-in” means to post to one’s personal Facebook wall that they are visiting a certain location—in this case, your dental practice. This is a great way to kickstart conversations on Facebook about you and your dental practice. Facebook “Deals” is an incentive program involving Facebook Places. It is also a free service that allows your practice to offer an incentive of your choice to those that “check-in” at your practice.

    This is so dumb and so much work. Any average person would not want to say on facebook, yeah I’m at my dentist office. Keep dreaming of trying to make facebook more than it should be.

      Hi Sven, thanks for taking the time to comment and to express your opinion.

      You may be right in saying that the “average person”, using his or her own free will, wouldn’t likely check-in to tell the world that he or she just got a root canal at their dental office! But, let’s just pretend that someone actually had a great experience during their dental visit, that they were treated like valued friends, and that they actually liked their dentist and his or her team (possible? yes!). In addition, before paying their fee, the receptionist mentions that they could get 10% off their treatment by simply logging in to Facebook on their phone (or on the conveniently provided iPad provided in the practice) and checking in. Is this “so hard”?

      By claiming this deal,

      1. The dental practice benefits from their patient promoting the practice to all of his or her local Facebook friends (as you know the average person on Facebook has at least 130 friends).

      2. The patient benefits by getting 10% off.

      Is this still so “dumb”? In fact, it probably wouldn’t even matter if the patient had a good or bad experience because, to most people, checking in to receive 10% off their dental treatment would be easily worth it!

      Recently, one of our dental clients offered their patients an entry to win prime tickets to an NBA basketball game by simply checking in. As you can see from their Facebook page, they had 40 check-ins: http://www.facebook.com/hammondellis

      Social Media is word-of-mouth marketing online. If you can do anything to incentivize a patient to spark conversations about your practice or to create value and awareness… We say, why not just do it!

      As far as making Facebook “more than it should be”… As you know, Facebook has hundreds of millions of active users with more than 250 million active users accessing it through their mobile devices. 50% of active users log on to Facebook in any given day and people spend over 700 billion minutes per month on Facebook.     facebook, twitter, four square are wonderful free marketing tools. i am 54 years old and enjoy checking in EVERYWHERE i go just to get the mayorship and inform friends that i am knowledgeable about what is going on in my town. i’m a realtor. @sutahonthebeach leasing the beach. selling the shore. long branch.
