Every week, the MSP team breaks down the dental marketing news that actually matters, from Google updates and AI search changes to social media trends, SEO shifts, and reputation management surprises.
This Week’s Drilldown:
- Snapchat will no longer recommend wholly AI-generated video
- Reddit’s user base grows to more than 130 million daily actives
- Google now separates AI search impressions in Search Console
- AI models favor brands they already know, new study finds
- Quick hit: Google adds text disclaimer assets for Search ads
Snapchat Is the Latest Platform to Crack Down on “AI Slop”
What happened: Snapchat announced that its Spotlight feed, the app’s public short-form video tab, will no longer recommend videos that are wholly AI-generated, even when the AI usage is properly disclosed. Videos edited or enhanced using Snapchat’s own AI creative tools can still get recommended. Snapchat says the goal isn’t rejecting AI outright, but keeping Spotlight focused on “authentic creativity from real people.” This follows a wave of similar moves across the industry: LinkedIn just launched a “seems like AI slop” reporting button, YouTube tightened its monetization rules against generic, repetitive AI content, and Substack rolled out a tool to flag AI-written newsletters.
Why dentists should care: A lot of practices (including ones we work with) have leaned on AI tools to help generate social media captions, ideas, and even video content, since it’s a huge time saver. This isn’t a reason to stop, but it is a signal that platforms are getting pickier about what actually gets distribution. Content that’s obviously mass-produced by AI with no real editing, personality, or practice-specific detail is increasingly likely to get quietly deprioritized, not banned, just buried.
What to do next:
- Keep using AI tools to speed up caption writing, idea generation, and first drafts
- Always add a human layer: your own photos, your team’s voice, real patient moments (with permission), and specific details about your practice
- If you post short-form video, avoid publishing fully AI-generated clips with no personal editing or context, since that’s exactly the content getting deprioritized right now
Reddit Keeps Growing, and It’s Not Really “Social” Anymore
What happened: Reddit reported 130.3 million daily active users in its latest quarter, up 3.5 million from the previous quarter, along with a 61% year-over-year jump in revenue. But the more interesting detail is in how people use it. Reddit’s ratio of weekly-to-daily users is unusually high compared to platforms like Snapchat, meaning people log in less consistently but treat it more like a reference tool than a social feed. Reddit’s own leadership has pointed to this shift, and the platform is increasingly used to find answers and opinions rather than to socialize.
Why dentists should care: This lines up with something we’ve mentioned before: Reddit threads show up frequently in Google search results, and increasingly in AI-generated answers too, especially for “is this normal,” “should I be worried about,” or “recommendations for” style questions. That includes dental questions and local practice recommendations. You don’t need an active Reddit posting strategy to benefit from this, but it’s worth knowing this is where a chunk of patient research is quietly happening.
What to do next:
- Do a quick search for your practice name or common dental questions on Reddit to see what’s already being said
- If misinformation or an outdated review about your practice shows up, a polite, professional reply as the business (where appropriate) can go a long way
- Don’t feel pressured to start a heavy Reddit content strategy, but do treat it as a place worth occasionally monitoring, not ignoring
Google Finally Shows You Where You Show Up in AI Search
What happened: Google rolled out a new report inside Search Console that separates impressions from AI Overviews and AI Mode from your regular search data. Previously, there was no way to isolate which of your pages were actually appearing inside Google’s AI-generated answers versus traditional search results. The new report lets you filter by page, country, device, and date, though it doesn’t yet include which specific queries triggered the impression or whether anyone clicked through.
Why dentists should care: This is the closest thing yet to real visibility into how your dental website performs specifically within AI search, rather than guessing based on overall traffic changes. It won’t tell you everything, but it’s a genuine upgrade from having no data at all.
What to do next:
- If you or your SEO provider has Search Console access, check whether the new AI search report has rolled out to your account yet
- Look for pages that get a lot of AI impressions but little regular search traffic, and vice versa, since that gap can reveal which content Google’s AI tools find easiest to pull from
- Don’t panic over daily ups and downs in the numbers. Google itself says the data is still preliminary, so look at trends over weeks, not days
Familiar Brands Get a Head Start in AI Search
What happened: A new study found that AI models search for brands they already “know” from training data roughly 3.2 times more often than brands they’re less familiar with. When an AI response named a specific brand, 63% of the time it was one of the model’s five most familiar names in that category. That said, nearly a third of AI searches don’t mention a specific brand name at all, which leaves an opening for lesser-known businesses to get noticed if their content is strong enough.
Why dentists should care: This isn’t really about being a nationally recognized brand, it’s about consistency. The more your practice’s name, services, and information show up accurately and repeatedly across your dental website, Google Business Profile, Yelp, review platforms, and local directories, the more “familiar” your practice becomes to these systems over time. It reinforces something we say a lot around here. Dental brand consistency and accuracy across every platform matters more than ever. Engrave this upon your heart. Tattoo it on your forehead.
What to do next:
- Make sure your practice name, address, phone number, and services are listed identically everywhere online
- Keep publishing clear, accurate content about your practice and services, since that’s still the best way to build familiarity over time
- Don’t assume a smaller or newer practice is locked out of AI visibility. Strong, specific content still has a real shot, especially in searches that don’t name a specific brand
Quick Hit: Google Adds Text Disclaimer Assets for Search Ads
Google Ads now lets advertisers add a dedicated “text disclaimer” asset that’s guaranteed to display in your search ads, even when Google’s AI Max features send someone to a different landing page than expected. If your practice runs search ads that legally require specific disclosure language (financing terms, promotional pricing details, and similar), this closes a gap that used to force advertisers to choose between using Google’s AI-powered ad features and guaranteeing their required text actually showed up. Worth a quick check with whoever manages your dental ads if you have any required disclosure language running today.
Action Items
| Update | What It Means | What To Do | Priority |
| Snapchat cracks down on AI slop | Fully AI-generated video is losing reach across major platforms | Add a human layer to any AI-assisted content you post | Medium |
| Reddit hits 130M+ daily actives | Reddit functions more like a research tool than social media now | Check what’s being said about your practice on Reddit | Low |
| Google splits out AI search impressions | You can now see which pages appear in AI Overviews and AI Mode | Check Search Console for the new report and compare to organic data | Medium |
| AI models favor familiar brands | Consistent info across the web builds AI “familiarity” over time | Audit your practice info for consistency across every listing | Medium |
| Google Ads text disclaimers | Required ad disclosure text can now be guaranteed to display | Ask your ads manager if this applies to your campaigns | Low |
MSP’s Take
The theme this week is trust, both the kind AI systems place in familiar, consistent information, and the kind platforms are trying to preserve by pushing back on low-effort AI content. None of this means abandoning AI tools, we still think they’re genuinely useful for speeding up content creation and getting a clearer read on your search performance. It just means the practices that put a real human layer on top of AI-assisted work, and keep their information accurate and consistent everywhere, are the ones set up to benefit as these systems get pickier.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should my dental practice stop using AI to help with social media content?
No, but add a human layer to it. Platforms like Snapchat, LinkedIn, and YouTube are increasingly deprioritizing content that’s wholly AI-generated with no personal editing or context. Using AI to draft captions or generate ideas is still fine, especially when you add your own photos, voice, and practice-specific details.
Is Reddit worth paying attention to for a dental practice?
Reddit doesn’t require an active posting strategy for most practices, but it’s increasingly used as a research tool, with threads showing up in both Google search results and AI-generated answers. It’s worth occasionally checking what’s being said about your practice or dental topics relevant to your patients.
How can I see if my website is showing up in Google's AI Overviews?
Google recently added a dedicated report in Search Console that separates AI Overview and AI Mode impressions from regular search data. If you or your dental marketing provider has Search Console access, you can check whether this report has rolled out to your account.
Does AI search only recommend big, well-known brands?
Not entirely. While AI models do search for familiar brands more often, nearly a third of AI searches don’t name a specific brand at all, which leaves room for smaller or newer practices to get noticed with strong, accurate, consistent content.
What are Google's new text disclaimer assets for Search ads?
They’re a new ad asset type that guarantees required legal or regulatory disclosure text displays in your search ads, even when Google’s AI-powered features send users to a different landing page. This is useful for practices running ads that require specific financing or promotional disclosures.
