Tips For A Successful Launch From Gentle Family Dentistry

ALTHOUGH DR. CHOW AND HIS TEAM at Gentle Family Dentistry have been practicing in Normal-Bloomington Illinois for over 25 years, they just recently started to reach out to patients on social media.

In the months after they started with My Social Practice, we noticed that Gentle Family Dentistry’s Facebook fans were growing at an amazing rate. Not only that, but they were getting great interaction from patients on both their Facebook page and their blog.

What factors made their social media launch so successful?

A Great Team Creating A Remarkable Patient Experience

The practices that do best on social media are those that create a remarkable patient experience—something that people want to talk about. At Gentle Family Dentistry, social media gave the team a chance to hear what patients appreciated about their service. Michelle, their Office Manager, says, “We were surprised at the number of patients praising our staff for making them feel cared for, respected, and comfortable. It makes an impression to treat people so they feel good about being in our office!”

As we’ve mentioned before, a successful social media campaign starts with the relationships between your team and your patients.

Exciting, Goal-Driven Giveaways

There’s a reason that we encourage all new clients to start a promotion. It’s the best way to get things rolling. Gentle Family Dentistry decided to start out with a big promotion: an iPad. But it was especially successful because:

  1. When they noticed the promo was getting a lot of interest from FRIENDS of their patients, as well as their staff, they adapted. They announced that three winners would be chosen—one patient, one non-patient, and one team member who got the most “likes” for their Facebook page.
  2. They brought attention to the promo by re-posting it on their wall, and using the in-office promotion materials provided from My Social Practice. They even had to order extra cards!

We asked Michelle what their biggest surprise has been using social media marketing in their practice. She said, “We were very surprised at how willing and enthusiastic our patients were to share their comments about our office. It helped our entire team realize the very positive difference we can make in our patients’ dental experience!

Lesson Learned: When you reach out to patients, they reach out to you!


When we asked her which tools they’ve been seeing the most success with, Michelle told us, “We have been concentrating on our Facebook page, as suggested by My Social Practice. It’s a trial and error process determining what kinds of posts are most interesting to our followers but it’s also fun to see what our “fans” react to! We always keep in mind the goals of only posting things that will be relevant, interesting, fun, inspiring and informational. We hope that anyone visiting our page will scroll through the posts and start smiling, laughing, learning, be entertained, and overall just feel good about being there. Like going into someone’s home, walking through the rooms in the home and getting good vibes about the family living in the home!

Lesson Learned: What a perfect analogy! That’s a perfect way to make sure your Facebook page truly reflects your practice culture.


We asked Michelle to share her thoughts about the biggest benefit of social media for THEIR PRACTICE. She said,“Our Facebook page gives us an effective way to market our practice through our patients, who have always been our best marketing asset. We hope that as patients interact with our page, their friends and family will also become familiar with our office, and remember us should they need a dentist in the future.”

Lesson Learned: Social media has the power to create stories that spread, and friends of patients are the best group that you can possibly reach out to.
