What has surprised you most about social media marketing?

The team involvement with the patients from a rapport standpoint. Our practice has always had an inviting environment, and now team members look for ways to get patients to open up and talk about their lives outside of the dental practice. Patients are surprisingly receptive to writing a review, and the team performs better when they know we ask for evaluation.

In your opinion, what is the No. 1 benefit of social media marketing for your patients?

Increased personal attention to the human being, not just their teeth. It makes them feel like they’re a part of something special. They feel more connected to us.

How about the biggest benefit to your practice?

Exposure. We now reach mass amounts of people with health tips and fun facts about our practice and team.

What’s the biggest challenge you face in your social media marketing efforts?

Thinking that we might be invading a patient’s personal space. If a patient doesn’t want to be bothered or thinks it’s silly, they will pass. But even those who don’t want to be involved will feel that this is a place that cares. Their perception is most dental offices are stuffy, most doctors are pompous. Our social media helps them be more open to refer their friends, family and colleagues.

Among the things My Social Practice provides, what has been the most help to you?

The simplicity of the links, and MSP Reviews. Not only did it increase online presence positively, but it created a whole internal culture of social interaction with patients and increased customer service.
