Fun Dental Marketing Ideas During October
Online dental marketing is most effective when a mixed bag of content is created and published through your social media accounts.
Some content should be dental educational information, but you should keep that to around 20% of your total content. The other 80% should be a nice mix of team and patient photos and videos.
By layering educational, team, and patient content, building one piece on top of another, you have the most opportunities to connect with patients and prospective patients.
We recommend that dentists run at least one campaign in October leading to Halloween. A Sweet Swap Candy Campaign, the National Dental Hygiene Month Campaign, or the Put On Pink Campaign.
Run A Sweet Swap Candy Campaign
Maybe you’ve heard of a candy-buy-back campaign? It’s the same concept.
After Halloween, children bring their excess candy to your office and trade it for prizes or cash; a sweet swap campaign is a perfect opportunity to snap a photo with your patient and post it to your social media accounts.
Practices that have run this campaign in the past find it an excellent opportunity to build relationships with their patients and families.
Angie from Speedvale Dental said this about running the Sweet Swap campaign,”
"...we assumed that our patients didn't think about us outside of their six-month visits, and didn't care to know what was going on with us. We were wrong. The more we see our patients interacting with us through social media, the more surprised we are. Our patients do indeed care to keep up to date with events in the office and care to know us as people. We are more than just a dental office to them… We are friends!"
How To Get Started With A Sweet Swap Campaign
Download the digital marketing campaign kit here. The campaign kit will give you all the materials you need to launch and promote the campaign.
We recommend donating your candy to Move America Forward, which supports US military troops worldwide.
The process is simple, box up the candy and ship it to the address below. You’re not required to sort or weigh the candy. And the cost of shipping is a tax write-off (speak with your accountant about tax benefits).
In addition to sending the candy, you can also ask the children to write a message to the troops, and if their parents agree, they can include their address allowing the troops to write back. You can read about the campaign on their website. Their address to ship the excess candy is listed on their site.
National Dental Hygiene Month Campaign
October is National Dental Hygiene Month and is an excellent opportunity to show the world your commitment to helping each patient live a happy, healthy life!
Hygienists identify oral diseases and abnormalities, prevent cavities and keep your smile bright. If you’ve ever kissed someone with gingivitis, you know how amazing these oral hygiene warriors are.
One way your hygienists participate in hygienist awareness month is to post photos to your social media accounts with the hashtag #RDHProud.
How To Get Started With The #RDHProud Campaign
We’ve developed digital assets to run the campaign. The campaign includes social media signs and graphics to create engaging social media posts.
Download the Proud Hygienist digital campaign materials, snap a selfie using one of the social signs, and post the photo with #RDHProud. Tell everyone why you love your job and that you do more than just clean teeth; you save lives through oral health!
Bonus CE Credit From Catapult Education
We’ve teamed up with the leading dental CE company Catapult Education. And they’re including two free hygiene CE courses in the campaign materials. All you have to do is download the materials and you’ll be given codes and instructions on how to receive your CE.
Run The Put On Pink Campaign
Putting on a pink ribbon in October is part of a campaign to raise awareness for breast cancer. Charitable organizations support the campaign and donate funds for research to fight breast cancer and help those women who currently have breast cancer.
Your dental practice can show support by creating Put On Pink content for your social media accounts. Even though this is not a dental-specific campaign, it’s a noble cause, and we’ve helped thousands of dental practices run this campaign over the years.
How To Get Started With The Put On Pink Campaign
All you need to do is download the complimentary campaign materials and start creating content.
There are several ways to run a Put On Pink campaign. The simplest way to get started is to take photos and videos of your team holding the social media signs in the downloadable materials. You can also post the download graphics with a quick thought on why you support the cause.
Many dental practices turn this campaign into a great dental marketing opportunity by donating $1 – $5 for every photo that patients post wearing pink. Most practices require patients to tag the dental practice, which helps with tracking.
Photos can be taken with patients in the office and/or you can allow anyone to post from anywhere. If you decide to do this, you may want to put a top-limit budget on how much your practice will donate. One year we had a practice rack up more than $10,000 in donations within a couple of hours—something they didn’t expect.
The point is, it works. When your practice gets involved in good causes, your community will notice.
