HERE AT MY SOCIAL PRACTICE, we’re pleased to announce our Social Practice of the Month! Congratulations to Dr. Adrian Fenderson and his team at All About Smiles in Napa, California.
About Dr. Fenderson & All About Smiles
We’ve been working with Dr. Fenderson now for nearly a year and a half. It’s been fun! He is a giving, caring dentist who does a great deal of good—not only in his practice, but around the world through his ongoing humanitarian efforts.
When it comes to social media marketing in a dental practice, they’re doing a lot of things right. We’ve chosen two of those things to highlight in this January Social Practice of the Month post:
First & Foremost
First and foremost, Dr. Fenderson’s office is a great example when it comes to practice efforts in supplementing the blog posts we publish with the practice’s own personal posts!
Why It’s Important To Post on Social Media
We’re always educating and coaching our clients through strategy discussions! My Social Practice isn’t here to take over our client practices’ voices! The dental practices that most successfully use dental social media marketing are the ones committed to business on a deeply intimate—almost spiritual—level. They are the practices that consider revenue increases BOTH in terms of traditional, short-term ROI and as a natural, long-term outgrowth of better serving people. ONLY YOU can best tell those stories. We’re not in your practice each day connecting with your patients. Start out slow—baby steps! Write one post a month. It’s easy to learn how.
On several occasions, Dr. Fenderson has used video to reach out to patients and prospects in a very personal, candid way. These kinds of videos build trust… And at the same time, help educate patients and prospects about the services Dr. Fenderson and his team offer.
As you can see, these kinds of videos need not be professionally shot at great expense to be engaging. Let your own practice personality come through. If you want to learn more about using video in your practice, be sure to read (or re-read) the three recent posts we wrote for you on video creating basics:
- Video Creation Basics (1 of 3) Start By Answering A Few Questions
- Video Creation Basics (2 of 3) Simple, Short Talking Head Vids
- Video Creation Basics (3 of 3) Quick Idea #20, Capturing Fleeting Moments
We asked Dr. Fenderson…
We asked Dr. Fenderson what his biggest “a-ha moment” has been in using social media marketing for dentists? He said, “One patient actually chose me because I appeared to be so available and open—never hiding from my patients. That same person said that he very much appreciates a professional who is transparent and accessible.”
Lesson Learned: Your dental or orthodontic practice is in a unique business position because of the personal relationships you have with your patients. Don’t be shy about sharing and connecting.
We also asked what things they’ve had the most success with. Dr. Fenderson told us the videos and testimonials on Google.
Lesson Learned: Read the three posts referenced above about video basics and find a little time to get started! Once again, baby steps!
When asked his opinion about the biggest benefits of social media to HIS PATIENTS, Dr. Fenderson simply said, “I’m building trust.”
Lesson Learned: Enough said.
When asked his opinion about the biggest benefits of social media to HIS PRACTICE, Dr. Fenderson replied, “By increasing trust, loyalty, and likeability with my patients, they feel comfortable referring their friends, coworkers, and extended family members.”
Lesson Learned: Word-of-mouth rocks when it comes to attracting the right kinds of patients.
Dr. Fenderson also mentioned how effective he feels like the monthly newsletter is that we send out on his behalf. “I sent one out before through Constant Contact, but it was time consuming and expensive.”
Lesson Learned: Keep working to get your patients’ email addresses. Make a goal to have an email address for EVERY patient in your practice.
Dr. Fenderson estimates that he spends 3–5 hours a week on social media marketing. Some weeks, less.
Lesson Learned: Any practice with the right tools, mindset, ideas, and strategy can benefit from social media marketing WITHOUT having it take tons of time. And remember, you can spread out the responsibilities!

Upon request, the social practice of the month receives the following items:
As you know, social media is a hot topic these days. News organizations are on the lookout for interesting, engaging stories about social media. What could be cooler than a story about a dentist receiving an award for social media!? A dentist!? That’s right… a dentist! Upon request, we’re happy to write a press release and provide suggestions to you for pushing it out through various channels to try to get some local press.
Congratulations to Dr. Fenderson and Team!
