During their time as our client, we’ve been impressed by their eagerness to learn and their willingness to try new things in their practice.
Don’t Be Afraid To Try Something New
A while ago, Dr. Costello got a new GoPro videocamera and brought it with him on vacation. The practice’s YouTube channel now includes an awesome dental marketing video of his snowboard run down the mountain as seen from the helmet cam. How cool is that?
They’ve also been playing around with Pinterest. Their Pinboards include collections of dental humor, links to educational resources, and pictures of their own practice. Pinterest is a great chance to mix together useful information, details about your practice, and a bit of fun.
Notice What’s Effective For You
While you’re out and about experimenting with new things, be sure that you keep note of the things that work for you.
At the Downtown Dental Group, they’ve gotten a lot of response from Facebook marketing posts featuring team members. These can be as simple as a photo of a team member at work, or a shout out for someone’s birthday. Remember that the personal touch of YOUR practice is something no one can duplicate.
Use Your Resources
One of the biggest things that we love about Dr. Costello and his team is that they’re always using the dental social media training we provide for our clients. When it was time to load a video onto YouTube, Laura contacted our account managers to get step-by-step training. And as they worked together on their Pinterest boards, they incorporated tips and suggestions from our Blog.
Laura is Dr. Costello’s wife, and she’s been heading up social media for Downtown Dental’s offices. We asked Laura what their biggest surprise has been using social media marketing. She said,“The biggest surprise was “Wow—this is a huge time commitment!” However, we feel very fortunate to be dealing with My Social Practice to lead us down this path.”
Lesson Learned: Yep, it takes time. You need to do research, exercise your ingenuity, and do the legwork. But we’re here to guide you through.
Next, we asked what social media marketing tactics they’ve had the most success with. Laura said, “We have seen the most success with our Facebook posts. Patients really seem to like and comment on our personal posts of team members. We feature a team member each month and acknowledge their birthdays, anniversaries and special events in their lives.
“Contests are also popular. We have given tickets away to our State Fair, Summerfest and this September we will be giving away Back-to-School Target giftcards. We even did a radio promotion this spring to help promote our iPad giveaway.”
Lesson Learned: We do our best to give you applicable, fun, and informative kickstarts and blog posts. But your patients are interested in connecting with YOU, not us. Your personal posts and local flavor are what people truly relate to.
Next, we asked Laura to share her thoughts about the biggest benefits of social media for THEIR PRACTICE. She said,“Reaching patients and hopefully future patients immediately. It’s a great way to advertise our offices and services.”
Lesson Learned: Sometimes dental practices aren’t sure how to bring up the great services and technologies they have. Social media marketing is a great place to let your patients know what else you can offer them.
When asked her opinion about what’s the HARDEST part of social media marketing for dentists, Laura said,“Finding time to master everything. It’s tough looking for new ideas that are relevant and will benefit our patients. Right now, we are mainly trying to stay on top of Facebook and Pinterest. Hopefully, in the near future we can experiment more with creating office videos, check-in giveaways and possibly Twitter. We would love to create a YouTube video that would go viral and land us a spot on the Today Show!”
Lesson Learned: There’s always something new and fun to do. We look forward to seeing what you guys turn out in the future!
