Keeping track of where all your dental practice’s Facebook photos are and who is able to see them can get confusing fast. Learn these simple photo management essentials!

Sharing photos is one of the best ways to spark engagement on your practice’s Facebook page. Whether it’s your own photo, one in which a patient has tagged your practice, or from another source, you need to know how to organize and publish them effectively.

Here’s a list of quick answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about managing Facebook photos:

How do I upload a photo?

  1. From the top of your Timeline or News Feed, click the Photo/Video button.
  2. Select the photo in the file browser.
  3. Type in a caption, and select who you want to be able to see the photo using the audience selector (shown below). Then click Post.

Where are my Facebook photos stored?

Photos are stored in your albums, which can be accessed through the Photos tab on the left side of your page. By default, photos uploaded through the desktop version of Facebook will be put into the Timeline Photos album, while photos uploaded from your phone will be put into the Mobile Uploads album.

How do I change which album a photo is stored in?

  1. Navigate to your photo albums by clicking the Photos tab on the left side of your page.
  2. Click the album that has the photo you would like to move.
  3. Put your cursor on the photo you would like to move, and click the Edit button which appears in the upper-right corner.
  4. From this menu (shown below), click Move To Other Album and select another album for the photo.

How do I manage who can see my photos?

To edit the privacy settings for any album you have created:

  1. Navigate to your photo albums by clicking the Photos tab on the left side of your page.
  2. Use the audience selector tool under each album to control who can see it.

For default albums such as Profile Pictures, Cover Photos, Mobile Uploads and Timeline Photos, you can only change the privacy settings of individual photos, not the entire album.

A patient tagged our practice in one of their own photos. How can I share it with our audience?

One of the best ways a patient can become an advocate for your practice is to snap a photo of themselves at your practice, tag your practice location, and post it to their own timeline. This lets their friends and family (who would trust their recommendation) see what a great experience they had at your practice.

These posts will appear in the Visitor Posts section on the right side of your practice’s Facebook page. To make a visitor post appear in your main timeline and share it with your audience, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Posts tab on the left side of your page.
  2. Find the Visitor Posts section on the right side of the page.
  3. Click the timestamp of the post you would like to share.
  4. Click the Share button, and select to share the post to your page.

Regularly sharing team and patient photos helps you create a fresh and engaging social media mix. Photos are shareable, interesting, and have better reach on Facebook. Well-organized albums can also help potential patients get familiar with your practice culture. And when you pair a great photo with an interactive element and a small boost, it’s amazing how much it can grow your audience and build your social media presence.
