A recommendation of your dental practice from a trusted friend or family member is by far the best way to win over a potential patient. Now, Facebook allows people to poll their friend networks to find the best local businesses. Make sure your practice page is ready for the spotlight.

As online reviews and consumer reporting continue to become more advanced, the most common and most trusted way people find new products and services remains the same — they ask their friends. It’s no wonder then that 83 percent of consumers say that the opinions of friends and family members affect their purchasing decisions.

With Facebook Recommendations, it’s easier than ever for existing patients to introduce your practice to friends that are looking for a dentist. Here’s how it works and what you can do to ensure you make a good first impression when a patient recommends your practice.

Getting Recommendations Is as Easy as Writing a Post

Facebook Recommendations was introduced in late 2015 as a new way for people to find and share their favorite local businesses. The feature activates automatically when you post something indicating you’re looking for an event, service or store — for example, when you include phrases such as “I’m looking for” or “I need a”. Doing so will allow you to add a map to your post which friends can populate with the locations of their suggested businesses.

There is also an option on the mobile app to notify friends directly that you’re looking for suggestions. From there, friends can leave a comment with their recommendation like on any other post.

But here’s the difference: when Facebook recognizes the name of a business in one of these recommendation comments, it will automatically provide a link to their page along with some basic information. This includes the business’ review score, hours, profile picture and address, so it’s imperative you keep your practice page updated with current, accurate information. Having a high Facebook review score will also help you make a great first impression. Check out our ebook for useful tips on obtaining patient reviews.

Facebook will also allow you to display a call-to-action button in these practice tags, making it easy for potential patients to message or call you with one click. Learn more about how to set up your call-to-action button here.

Help Potential Patients Find You Through Their Friends

When people are looking for products and services to meet their needs, they most commonly turn first to their social connections. And with nearly 2 billion users, Facebook is often the first place they go to ask. They know their friends and family have their best interests in mind, so their opinions carry a lot of weight.

Friends love to help friends find good things. By maintaining a strong social media presence and optimizing your business page for Facebook Recommendations, patients will more easily be able to introduce your practice to everyone in their social network.
